"Virtual Velocity" incorporates several new techniques and concepts. With this knife I have really tried to explore the concept of adding lots of unique, and almost hidden details: filling the canvas so to speak. Some particulars to note are the large beveled circle cutout in the front bolster with Agate stone underlay. I have also added a carved-out, curved accent to the Fossil Mastodon Ivory, both along the face and the side edges. The one on the front of the scales stands out in particular because it breaks through the shallow depth of surface color in the Ivory. The blade is a very bold, highly chatoyant, ladder pattern Damascus forged by Daryl Meier of 1095 and a203e, with milled accents, deep etched and hot-blued to a deep purple, with hints of blue and bronze as well as a polished ricasso. The bolsters are in two-parts, incorporating two different Damascus patterns and finish treatments, the second has its own set of two layer "liners". Along the top spine is another of my signature inlays of a photo of a mysterious, beautiful woman's face appearing from within the transparent shell. I have also again added some body jewelry. As usual there is a lot of multi-colored, carved, beveled and file worked 6al4v anodized titanium, along with various gemstones, including a large, upside down, tension-set Iolite in the inside rear curl. Along the bottom of the handle you can see a small glimpse of a large sterling silver inlay that was once the face of a stamp that I found at a flea market. Due to the backwards nature of a stamp, especially given the heavily stylized font seen here, and the resulting cropping, created a very unique abstract effect. The original stamp believe it or not said, "Happy Easter." I am continuing to develop ideas involving text to incorporate into my knives. Click Here to view the original drawing of this knife.
