| Undertow -- Scroll to Bottom for Detailed Information on this Design |
| Water was the inspiration for this piece; a paradox, like my knives - giver of life and the ultimate destroyer. These things and more describe both water and this work; turbulence, agitation, yet beauty, flowing, caressing, and nourishing. This small fighter is designed for close quarters combat and the cutout in the blade is my reference to the historical blade breaker. The radical shape and layout are indicative of cascading, rushing waters and starts with an overlapping twist pattern Damascus blade, bolsters of mosaic Damascus, which feature stepped anodized titanium liners. The handle scales are gorgeous, naturally occurring, rare blue colored Fossil Mastodon Ivory over deeply etched, and blue patinated copper/nickel slanted ladder pattern Mokume, which features parallel flutings, and seems to be alive and in the process of encompassing the Garnet set in 14k white gold. The Mokume acts as the center point, and ties the whole piece together, and compliments the overall color theme. The stones, as well as the bevels around the screws, and the cutout in the blade allude back to the theme of water, as bubbles in the rapids. |
