| "Passion Fissure" is a very unique design; this is actually a matching his and hers dueling stiletto set. This piece represents the beauty, passion, and sometimes tumultuous relationship between man and woman. The "Fissure", aside from being the physical separation between the two pieces, also metaphorically represents the division between the sexes. The blades, like the opposite sex, are separate, yet a mirror of each other, representing yin/yang. These principles are represented as a whole, and in the symmetrical layout (top image), the coupling or unification, and in the other display mode (bottom image); duality and opposition.
The two matching knives are held in place by two vertical fins attached to the wood base that fit through slots in the blade. These holders are bead-blasted Titanium in a wave motif, and add an additional sculptural element to the overall design. As you can see in the top overall photo, the two knives are set together side-by-side, which gives the illusion of the piece being one overall symmetrical dagger. This knife was actually originally intended to be a one-piece symmetrical dagger which I initially started about 12 years ago. In the other, opposing setting, you can see that the pieces create yet another visually interesting overall design. This was all carefully planned in the design stages. The base itself is highly chatoyant Bloodwood, with the grain cut lengthwise to compliment the visual movement of the piece, and features bevels, and milled accents, along with large Garnets set in 18k gold in each of the four corners. The handle elements of the knives feature several distinct colors and patterns, from the "Sharkstooth" pattern Damascus steel bolsters and cross-guard, in tones of deep pinks and blues, to the very unique black and deep red Carbon Fiber scales, which also feature milled accents. The integral Damascus blade features selectively etched sections exposing the very finely detailed twisted "Celtic Knot" pattern, in dark Grays and bright silver, along with semi-mirror polished ricasso, and spine sections. The bolsters are contoured together with, and flawlessly hand fit to the Carbon Fiber scales. The cross guards are beveled and both hot blued, and selectively polished. The spikes are Titanium. The knives feature several types, sizes and colors of Garnets, which are both regularly, and set upside-down. Additional stones are Sapphires, and Blue Pau shell. The liners are 6al4v titanium; file-worked, multi-color anodized (blue, pink/purple). The spine features semi-transparent shell inlays with signature logo underlays. This is a great piece for a coffee table, or even in the center of a dining table. Blades: 19 1/2" overall length. Base: 24" x 6.25" |
