| "Cyclops features an incredible, dramatic "Twisted Mosaic Basket Weave, Candy Stripe" pattern Damascus blade forged by George Werth of 5160, 1050, and pure nickel, with milled accents. This knife incorporates several unique features; the 1st things you'll notice, is the offset asymmetrical grind and other asymmetrical elements, these are my own unique twist on the classic dagger form. The bolsters are also twisted mosaic Damascus, heat colored to a beautiful bronze tint. The thematic point of this knife is a glass taxidermy crocodile eye set in 18k gold. In keeping with the "Cyclops" theme, there is only one of these; in its place on the opposite side is a Moldovite gemstone. The scales are a unique composite of very thin laminated layers of natural Black Lip pearl; this creates a layered and pooling effect when contoured, you really have to see the movement of the light across them to fully appreciate the effect. The front side also features a milled accent in the pearl between the taxidermy eye and the Pink Tourmaline, which I think gives the front scale a slight reference to African masks and shields. The Titanium "liners" and tang wrap are fully fileworked, carved, and multi-colored anodized. Along the spine is a four-color/metal Mokume-Gane inlay on one side, and one of my signature picture inlays of a cropped, highly expressive photo of a woman's eye under semi transparent shell on the opposite. The reverse side of the handle features a very unique design element called an "Ambigram", designed by John Langdon (www.johnlangdon.net), which is a word that reads the same right side up and upside down! (See Detail Below) You may have seen John's work in author Dan Brown's bestseller "Angels & Demons". In this case, the name of the knife, "Cyclops" in very stylized script is engraved into a heat colored Gibeon meteorite escutcheon plate. Be on the lookout for the re-release of John Langdon's book "Wordplay" with many all new Ambigrams and extended text, due out in November '05. I highly recommend checking out his mind-blowing work! The gemstones are all set in 18k yellow gold. 15 1/2" long overall. Completing the package is a Koa wood display stand, and leather sheath featuring Stingray, Lizard, and a file-worked, two-tone anodized 6a14v titanium core, as well as ninety 2.5mm Garnets set upside down in 18k yellow Gold. '05) as part of "Metalsmith" Magazines physical exhibition of their special juried issue "Exhibition in Print", at the SOFA expo (Sculptural Objects Functional Art), Chicago, IL. In the media, Cyclops was also seen in the Jan. '06 of "Stuff" magazine. John Langdon also included the Ambigram of Cyclops in his newest book "Wordplay" currently at your local bookstore. Cyclops was also picked for inclusion in the 2005 edition of "Metalsmith" magazines; "Exhibition in Print". This knife was also featured in the book "Art & Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade Knives". |
